Africa in 1924

Dernière mise à jour : 13 mars 2020

The Citroën Center-Africa expedition, better known as the "Croisière Noire", took place in 1924. But what did the geographical borders of the time look like?

  1. The first thing that we can see is the omnipresence of the European states at the forefront of which we find the English colonial Empire (in white on the map) and the French Colonial Empire (in blue on the map), Italy is not to be outdone (in yellow on the map) and Belgium with its Congo (in orange on the map). Note that I have reproduced here the colors of the teams present in the game.

  2. Two other colonial powers are present: Portugal in green and Spain in red.

  3. Only 3 African states are not under colonial domination: Basutoland and Swaziland in South Africa and Liberia autonomous territory following the abolition of slavery in the United States.

  4. A significant absent is Germany, which had its territories confiscated at the signing of the Treaty of Versailles and lost South West Africa (now Namibia) and Tanganika by the British and Cameroon by the French.
